Field Report : Ntence Decentz Tour 2013

DAY 9 The journey south continues.

Best sleep of he tour. The temp last night dropped to a chill. Its gonna be the case the further we head south. I woke with drool all up in me mo. Accommodation was the quarters of the construction workers form the 60's and the hydro power schemes they have in the area. Nice and cozy little cubes!

Drivin on the eastern side of the Tongariro National Park, the sun was shining on the 3 volcanoes of the area. Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe (Mordor) and Mt Ruapehu. Reflecting back on the conditions and the unfortunate events that went down on last years tour, i quietly ask the mountain if we can have good conditions and safe sk8ing for this years run on the great Mt Ruapehu. Respect. Its not for another few days before we get back here and to say I'm keen to be able to sk8 this one is a massive understatement.

Cruised through a rad town through Bull and as u can imagine there where bulls all over town. Big bulls, small bulls, bulls on fences, bulls on wheels. U get the point. Bondy and Gabe got a bargain on some Army surplus gear. Its been a long drive and the crew are getting loopy, a little crazy. Matt k got inverted on the seats and took thing to a horizontal level. Last one in the car gets a shot with Bondy's airsoft gun and today, Gabe and The Chad where victims!

Getting into Paekakariki, there was a heap of sun left in the day and after we checked into our accommodation it was time to suss out the small lil' beach-side town on the west coast and go have a look at the hill. Long descending turns, a few tighter than the others and the Tunapo Rd had a lot to offer. There was a lookout at the top and the tourists visiting the area took pleasure on us rollin the narrow access road, shame not so many of the drivers shared the same mind set.

Head back into town and hit the sk8 park and the beach. Had a nice refreshing swim and finished it off with a game of Ultimate Frizbee! Good times. Back home for a feed, some wine and Bondy's prep pin to give me a new tattoo.

DAY 10. Wellington.

On the way to Wellington today. The days have been bloody amazing eh. The temperatures perfect, bluebird skies and peeps are frothing on the free riding that Wellington has to offer. This far down the south island, the winds are straight off the ocean and blowing cold arctic air over the hills.

As the day got into the lunchtime hours, we all met at the local sk8 park and had a little wake-up session. The usual park rats got out and shrallped until Api rejoined the tour. I thought we got rid of that guy! HAHA, na Api's good value! The days really warming up nicely now. and we're off to the hills.

Mount Victoria has two free ride runs and both sides are both as nuts as each other. Probably a good thing we're hitting it on a weekday. Narrow, windy, heaps of traffic and patchy sections of pavements into hairpins. Just what we ordered.

Moved onto some of the other goods that Wello has to offer before the sun goes down. Talk on the town is we're sk8in the epic goods in the dark of night for safety reasons.  From my memory the runs around Wellington are rad to session at night. The traffic is mondo minimal and most the runs are lit and offer great visibility.

It was onto the old Cannon Creek bowl. The local kids were out in force. Shame most of them were hitting the old school surf style snake run/bowl on scooters and bikes. Kam was onto it early, jumping from the van as it pulled in with his gear on and ready to roll. Bondy was getting rad looking like he was chukin the hell cutbacks on a little single fin! Yew. Api was getting tuned by the groms as he was the only Kiwi round. A couple of the groms were keen on stickers and upon leaving tried they're hardest to get in the van and have a suss of the goods. I had me eye on the cheeky lil fellas. Eyes made bee-lines for wallets and i phones and that was it. I was onto em early and gave em the hell swift and they backed up.

Home for dinner and a few beers and perhaps we'll sk8 tonyt. guess we'll see how we all feel.
