Field Report : Palm Trees & Pits Last days...
DAY 17.
Slept
at the base of Mt Kiera in one of the parks of the side of the road.
Its closed and we can't really session it without hiking and the boys
are a little more stoked to get down to the beach and have a swim. The
coast has been a solid part of our trip. Everytime we head inland, we
want the coast. Got down to a place called North Beach and Guff and I
got down and had a swim. Its cold, offshore and the swell is up. Nice
little bash and were off to the hills.
Ive
been down this way a few times before and we usually drive past a
Chinese Temple that apparently has a sweet little road there. We hook up
with local lad Dijan and hit the temples paths. Its sweet to walk in
and see the statues and zen style gardens. We hit this tranq little spot
for an hour and then head south to Mac Pass.
Again,
I've been here twice before but never been able to sk8 because of the
weather. Today as we head into the valley theres a few raindrops but as
we get to the hill, its dry. Im finally gonna get a chance to ride.
Theres so many features to this beauty. So hard to even begin. Its like a
7 minute run that flows. Guff and Jaco get out and get the goods right
from the get go. Its time to bounce after we get stopped by the 5-0.
They are pretty chill but tell us to bounce so bounce we did.
Next
stop 7 pins. This one I've been waiting for. Just a meka run with
everything u can ask for. Fast and tight, rad flowing turns and as u can
imagine from the name, hairpins! We hook up with the local Hopkin crew
here. Luca, MattB, Maga, Robdawg and Kam have been here for the last few
hours while we've been at Mac Pass. Its not to be. Right at the bottom
of run 1, the heat was on again. the 5-0 pulled us over and went through
all our deets to no avail. That's twice now. Luck must be on our side.
No point pushing it, we decide to head back to the coast through K
valley.

Show Us Your Scene : The Winners
Our most recent video contest was created to encourage
skate communities around the world to showcase their scene and the shop that
supports them. We wanted to see the faces of longboarding, and to highlight
some of the scenes that are really passionate about skating. Longboarding
is growing and the shops that are embracing it are seeing a new loyal customer
base develop. Our goal with this contest was to shed some light on the
scenes that are emerging around the world and to show, how good shops are the
cornerstone of a vibrant skateboard community.
Submissions were
evaluated based on how well the video represented the scene and shop in a
creative and entertaining way. The winning entry would receive a $500
Landyachtz gift pack and a limited run of custom-graphic boards for their shop.
It was great to see such a positive response to this
contest! We received over 50 entries, and enjoyed seeing all the great skate
scenes around the world. We had it narrowed down to two potential winners both
of whom followed the contest details and made great, entertaining videos.
The videos styles where on the opposite ends of the spectrum so we decided the
hell with it and awarded them both for their efforts. Congratulations to
Florida and Boston, you have the best scenes!
We will be sending 4 custom Tomahawk 40 boards to each
shop and both crews will receive a $500 prize Landyachtz pack.
Without further a due, we would like to present the winners :

Justen Ortiz Does Korea
The second part of my trip brought me to
Korea. I was a little apprehensive heading to a new place because I was nervous about Japan and became comfortable and relaxed about it...Only to suddenly have to leave again
and travel somewhere new and unfamiliar. The only thing to do was to embrace it.
I met a few people from Korea last summer and had the opportunity to show them all
of our favorite Vancouver spots. Now it was time for them to return the favor.
Seeing some familiar faces at the airport set my mind at ease. My friend Jack
was there to pick me up and take me back
to his shop called Mind Boardshop. It was a really cool shop that had
skateboard, longboard, and snowboard gear. The first day we spent driving
around Seoul a little bit to visit some of the other local skateshops and meet
the owners. After that we had an awesome Korean barbeque style dinner and headed up to a ski
resort for the night so we were closer to the hills in the morning.

Field Report : Palm Trees & Pits
DAYS 13-16
What a great weekend of racing. Theres gonna be so many great stories that come from the final race at Mt Panorama's Newtons Nation. Basically for me to sum it up in one word is just too hard. Great times, great mates, great memories. I think the boys were in the right frame of mind after a pretty exciting and somewhat relaxing tour to date. The results speak for themselves. Both Kyle and Dillon made the top 10 and raced off for the $1000 to no avail. JoshE qualified well. Racing saw an interesting format with a double elimination bracket and at the end of the day Kyle and Dillon raced each other in the consolation final and finished 7th and 8th. I am stoked to have finished 10th and best ozzi in the event. JoshE finished down the field in 25th which is very respectable still with the amount of quality riders and fierce battles that went on on the day.
